Ana Sofia Gonçalves was born in Lisbon in 1979. In the year 2003 she graduated in Visual Arts -Painting from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, and in 2005 she took the course on Children's Illustration at Ar.Co. She illustrated her first book in 2008, entitled “A Princesa que veio da lua” and in 2009 she was selected for Ilustrarte, the International Biennial of children’s illustration. She recently illustrated the book “Queres namorar comigo?”, by João Ricardo.
In addition to illustration, her work includes painting, sculpture and set design. She has made the sets for the TV show “É a vida Alvim”, for channel Q, and the sets for the play “O meu pai é um Homem-Pássaro”, for Teatroesfera. As a plastic artist, she has devoted her art to childhood memories and the creation of her own characters, having exhibited her work at the Trema Gallery. Teaching is another of her passions: she is Professor of Visual Arts at Colégio Pedro Arrupe and organizer of several workshops for children.
