She was born in Vieiro, Trás-os-Montes, in 1948. She completed the Degree in Painting at ESBAP in 1971. She currently lives between Trás-os-Montes and Lisbon, where she has ateliers.
Graça Morais is represented in numerous public and private collections, such as the Portuguese Parliament, the Luso-American Foundation, the Ministry of Culture - the Serralves Museum, the Modern Art Museum of São Paulo, C.A.M.- the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Manuel de Brito Collection and the Collection of the Contemporary Art Centre Graça Morais.
From 1974 to 2014 she's held and participated in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions, both home and abroad.
Among her artistic interventions are the tile panels in the building of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos headquarters, in Lisbon, in the Belarus underground station in Moscow, in the Municipality of Bragança, in the Municipal Theatre of Bragança and in the Porto Planetary.
In 1993 she signed the scenography for the plays Os Biombos, by Jean Genet, at the Teatro Experimental de Cascais and in 1995, the scenography and costumes for Shakespeare's Richard II at the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in Lisbon, both staged by Carlos Avilez.
The life and work of Graça Morais were subject of the documentaries As Escolhidas by Margarida Gil (1997) and her daughter Joana Morais produced Na Cabeça de uma Mulher está a História de uma Aldeia (1999).
