Gente d Alma
Gabriela Carvalho writes about Martins Correia, the author of the most important work dedicated to the Portuguese sculptor, painter and professor (“Martins Correia - Laureatus, O Mestre da Forma e da Cor”): “The identity of a country is seen in the soul of the people. Very early on, Martins Correia discovered in art the way to represent the soul of the people who he dealt with: feet firm to the ground, gentle supports for big and strong bodies, facing wind and rain, heads holding jugs or a world or a dream”.
The vase Gente d’Alma, the 17th piece of the Project Artista Contemporâneos [Contemporary Artists], limited to 500 numbered copies, pays tribute to this profound humanism of the artist, who “invented all the power in the world in his representations of women”.
