Júlio Resende (Oporto, 1917 - Valbom, 2011) is the author of a vast painting work developed between the 1930s the first decade of the 21st century. In his public work he used techniques ranging from ceramics to fresco, from stained glass to tapestry, placed from North to South of Portugal. He illustrated literary works and made sets and costumes for theatre, ballet and many other shows.
Main Portuguese critics and art historians, but also important writers and poets, studied his work. He held numerous exhibitions in Portugal and abroad, and he was awarded several times, including the Prémio Nacional de Pintura da Academia de Belas Artes [National Prize for Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts].
In 1997 we was awarded the Grã-Cruz da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique [a Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique]. From the final decade of the 20th century on, he dedicated himself mainly to the creation of the Lugar do Desenho (his Foundation). He was also Professor at the Escola de Belas Artes do Porto [School of Fine Arts of Oporto], between 1958 and 1987, leaving a mark on the memory of all those who had the privilege to attend his classes.
