This fancy decoration originated in China and was produced for export, especially to Portuguese and Brazilian markets. Of all the decorations created in the eighteenth century, this was certainly the most expensive one. A small phoenix perches on the nicotine foliage in bloom. Twenty-seven colours and 22k gold make up this decoration, based on an original exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
