Artur Manuel do Cruzeiro Seixas (n.1920) remained faithful to Surrealist aesthetic throughout his entire career. A painter interested in sculpture, author of several books of poetry bringing together words and images, and also an illustrator, in 1949 Cruzeiro Seixas joined the group "The Surrealists" along with Mário Cesariny, António Maria Lisboa, Carlos Calvet, Pedro Oom and Mário Henrique Leiria, among others. His career has since featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. In 1999 he donated his entire collection to the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, where he lives, for the purpose of setting up both the Centre for Studies on Surrealism and the Museum of Surrealism. In 2009 he was awarded the Order of Santiago de Espada and in October 2012 the Portuguese Authors Society awarded him the Medal of Honour in recognition of his long and exceptional career.
