600 years since the discovery of the Madeira archipelago
The beginning of the feats of the Discoveries.
The first major step that led the Portuguese beyond the Taprobana island and made the ocean a veritable Portuguese sea was taken 600 years ago, with the discovery of the Madeira archipelago, beginning with Porto Santo in 1418 and ending with the discovery of the Madeira island, in 1419.
Comprising pieces inspired by the region’s traditional costumes, this collection was developed by invitation of the Regional Government of Madeira to celebrate the 600 years since the discovery of the Madeira and Porto Santo islands. An elegant tribute to such an important date of the collective history of Portugal.
