Vista Alegre

The Fete

In the late seventeenth century, the Bishop of Miranda, Manuel de Moura Manuel, ordered the construction of the Nossa Senhora de Penha de França chapel, classified nowadays as a national monument.

By a royal charter of King John VI, dated July 1, 1824, the founding of the Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory was granted. Normally, this is also the date chosen for the local patron saint festivities, simultaneously marking the anniversary of the factory, of which she is also patroness.

Full of special importance for the factory and for the local community. The festivities in honour of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França were registered in 2015 in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory.
